How to Talk About the Weather in German
Regardless of the language, everyone likes to talk about theà weather. Learning how to talk about the weather in German is a key part of learning the language. This means youll need to learn more than just theà terms for the weather in German. You will also need to adjustà howà you talk about the weather. As with many other countries, Germany measures weather-related issues like barometric pressure and temperatures differently than in the U.S. There are even a few hidden vocabulary traps youll need to learn to avoid when talking about how warm or cold you are in German. When youre in German-speaking Europe, you also need to learn how to listen to a typical weather forecast. To express that you feel hot or cold in German, use a dative pronoun ââ¬â à dir (to you) andà mir (to me) in the examples above. In German, you say, to me, it is hot rather than I am hot, which in German would roughly translate as you are in heat. Indeed, if you want toà speak German, youll also have to know your dative prepositions. Many dative prepositions are common terms in German, such asà nachà (after, to),à vonà (by, of) andà mità (with). Its hard to speak without them. The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame - 1740 Words
Admission to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in Cleveland, has been postponed for the current week, apparently so Republican National Convention-goers can unreservedly visit the Louder Than Words: Rock, Power, and Politics show shortly possessing its upper floors. This appears like a smart thought. For quite a long time, Republican crusades have profoundly misjudged, regularly in clever ways, the most developmental and vital belief systems of rock music, as prove by their unending avoiding of restraining requests from performers who don t need their dissident hollers related, even incidentally, with preservationist motivation. Ejti Stih De Fernandez De Cordova Essay Example For Students
Ejti Stih De Fernandez De Cordova Essay Ejti Stih de Fernandez de Cordova, a Yugoslavian-born and educated painter, resides and works in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Over the course of her active studio and exhibition career, she has exhibited her paintings throughout South America and Spain. Ejti, whom is fluent in several languages including English, lectured at the University of Georgia on Tuesday, September 21, 1999. This lecture was held in the M. Smith Griffith Auditorium in the Georgia Museum of Art. She also lectured in Dr. Cochrans Art Appreciation class in the Lamar Dodd School of Art. Although she claimed to possess a lack of confidence in front of a large audience, I believe she portrayed herself brilliantly. Ejtiââ¬â¢s work is darkly humorous and filled with socio-political satire. She paints metaphorically in an expressionistic and exaggerated style, which is similar to other artists such as Jack Levine. She has been compared to Levine because of her ability to distort or pervert all genders in society, politics, religion, and sexuality with her sarcastic and ironic style. One might differentiate Ejti for her ability to distort reality and her use of symbols and stylization to give objective expression to her inner experience. Ejti also creates book, magazine, poster, and newspaper illustrations. Occasionally, she produces ceramic sculptures and prints, and has been known to design costumes for theatrical performances. During her visit to Dr. Cochranââ¬â¢s class, Ejti discussed her twenty-five year career in the arts and the nature of her work. She believes that an artistsââ¬â¢ work isderived from his or her surroundings and society, and that the work should clearly represent what the artist thinks. Ejti focused on the fact that the audience should direct their attention to the work first, and then, they should look at the title only as an extra layer to the work in order to identify some of the ideas. This theory comes from the notion that an artist does not think in terms of words, but rather as a visionist. The two works that we studied in class are not representational of Ejtiââ¬â¢s overall work. However, she devoted all of her time and energy into these works in order to become genuinely involved in the work itself. Ejti claims, ââ¬Å"One has to have faith in what they do regardless of whether it is an organized religion. You have to be deeply involved.â⬠She views art as a direct way to communicate with the external world.

Why are friendships so important to society free essay sample
Friendship is important because you need to know who your real friends are. You need to know who is really down for you and who is really not. In Of Mice of and Men by John Steinbeck, the story is about two migrant workers who have been let off on a bus miles away from a California farm where they are due to work. Another character named Slim comments on the rarity friendship between George and Lennie. When Lennie sees Curleyââ¬â¢s wife and when she is flirting with them, Lennie feels her hair and gets a little fun with it, and George smells danger/ trouble. Like in Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie became friends by working on the same farm. And sometimes George gets mad at Lennie for sometimes being not himself and not listening to what has to be done on the farm. We will write a custom essay sample on Why are friendships so important to society? or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page And on the farm, it creates a positive friendship between the people on the farm. They are important because people arenââ¬â¢t really your friend unless you really get along my theme for this essay is although friendship is frustrating, it is necessary. In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, friendships can be really hard to deal with. George and Lennie have a challenging relationship because Lennie is somewhat hard to deal with for some reasonsâ⬠Lennie, who have been watching, and copying exactly what George doesâ⬠.(10) Instead, this is just part of his mental handicap: George is less of a friend than parent, role model, and idol all wrapped up into one. George is a father figure to Lennie because he looks out for him whenever he is in danger or trouble. The second paragraph is talking about how the relationship/friendship between George and Lennie is presented in the novel, George and Lennie are just friends and there is no family relation between them. And there many relationships between people throughout the story, so the setting is kind of complicated to see in the mind. But sometimes in the story, Lennie sometimes care for George in many ways as well. They travel, work, and dream together, also give companionship that no one has never had nor have. Their latest goal is to have their own farm and the dream is cut short because of other events in the story. In the novel, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, some of the characters show a form of loneliness just like, Candy, Crooks, and last but not least Curleyââ¬â¢s wife. But they question the friendship between George and Lennie because their life does not have any support in it. And there is one thing you really need in life and that is friends and people suffer from loneliness and solitude, and loneliness leads to low self-esteem. Crooks is shocked by the strength of the friendship between George and Lennie because they are really close. In Of Mice and Men, Crooks said,â⬠Well, suppose, jusââ¬â¢ sââ¬â¢pose he doesnââ¬â¢t come back. Whatââ¬â¢ll you do then?â⬠(79).And he asks those questions because he does not have any friends, and he was just curious about George and Lennieââ¬â¢s friendship.

Show how code switching can be used for strategic purposes. In what way is code switching similar to or different from style shifting as a strategic tool. Codeswitching and style shifting are the two common means of communications today. The definition of code switching by Swann (2002) is "The switch between languages or language varieties, during the course of a single interaction". For example, codeswitching from the English to Swahili a seen in "Wache Mimi nielekee tauni tukutane this evening". (Let me go so that I may reach town, let's meet this evening) While the definition of style shifting is "The use of different aspects of dialect and accent: to the way in which the pronunciation choice of words and grammatical features associated to different varieties of English used variably by speakers in different context". For example the first person singular pronoun in English "I feel happy" can be substituted to Patois variant "me feel happy". In the following, I will be using Monica's Heller's article to show how codeswitching can be used for strategic tool. Then I will show other findings that are similar to Monica Heller's article. English: Chart showing trends of Anglophone and Fr...Finally I will compare and contrast between codeswitching and style shifting as a strategic tool. (Swann, 2002)Let us begin with Heller's (1988) study of how codeswitching can be used as a strategic tool to achieve the following that I have classified into four main groups. They are to achieve rights and obligations associated with different identities; managing personal relations; diverge or converge, to show solidarity and for work related purpose. For the rights and obligations associated with different identities, Heller (1988) found that Anglophone managers in a bid to maintain job stability as a manager by being what she terms as a "marginal". This is seen from Anglophone communicating in French to maintain their job and promotion opportunities but switches to English to maintain a good working relations with the Anglophone. Thus Anglophone can gain the advantage of...

European Law - Free Movement of Goods - Essay Example A book could be written about this subject listing and describing the players over the years and the changes. In terms of France, Guerlain has traditionally been Frances most distinguished competitor for Fragrantia, offering the famous fragrances LEau impà ©riale, Shalimar, LHeure bleue, Vol de Nuit and Mitsouko. ââ¬Å"Guerlain was founded by Pierre Francois Pascal and, since opening their first perfumery in Paris in 1828, they have expanded to seven exclusive boutiques in Paris, with equally exclusive shops in Milan, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong1â⬠. The new protectionist laws are poised to leave Fragrantia behind and give a favored market to Guerlain and Chanel, major competitors of the firm, each with a strong established base of customers who are willing to pay premium prices. Sales are different for various competitors in the perfume industry, with growth in some areas and losses and others. However, overall sales in France appear to be somewhat stronger than UK sales, based on the slump of UK perfume industry which Fragrantia has to deal with in the first place, when compared to the assertion that Frances perfume and cosmetics industry ââ¬Å"recorded its 40th consecutive year of growth in 2006, with sales rising 5.7 percent compared with an average of 5.0 percent in the past 10 years2â⬠. Forty years of constant sales growth is indeed impressive and is something that the UK market is not really achieving, in terms of sales growth comparisons. This is why Fragrantia needs to continue to tap into the strong French market, but unfortunately is being stymied by the new tax. Fragrantiaââ¬â¢s discovering the reasons for this sustained sales growth in France may involve looking at variables such as free market motivation and effectiveness in relation to external and internal rewards, in terms of incentives as well as in terms of comparison with other types of variables such as national pride and
